“The best part of a relationship is getting to call the person, or lay down next to them, and tell them all the crazy things that happened to you all day long. In the end that’s what it’s about. It’s not about sex, it’s not about the money they give you, it’s not about how good looking they are, it’s about them listening to you talk for hours and hours and hours, about stupid shit that doesn’t matter.”—Tegan Quin (via perfect)
So, recently I added this girl from back home on my personal Facebook. Now, I usually only keep a Facebook for family and close friends, but I thought “what the hell”. Now, this girl and I have never really had any personal problems with each other. As soon as I clicked the little “add” button, all hell broke loose on my feed. She’s posting things like “haha what a slut you’ve become” and “sex workers are lazy losers!” Now, despite how I love to stick up for myself, I realize that Facebook can be a cesspool of garbage people, and throwing yourself into the opposing side of an argument on Facebook is kind of like throwing yourself into a school of sharks, covered in blood. So, I decided to just remove the girl and go on with my day, but it definitely sparked a lot of bad memories for me. Mostly, I like to remember having awesome supportive friends that I had a lot of fun with, but that was almost never the case.
I think part of the reason is that when you put adverts on all your photo sets now, it doesn't feel like it's for body positivity anymore-it feels like sex work...which is fine and there are lots of people of all genders that like and want that, but maybe het women don't want to see adverts for it as much. It's almost like the tone of your personal posts have changed. But y'know what? It's stupid. You do you!
things to clear up:
it IS sex work… it doesn’t just “feel” like it.
there is not just one facet of me as a human being and I can be body positive, and naked on the internet for money simultaneously.
the tone of my personal posts reflect me as a person… so duh the tone is not always the same because I am a human being who goes through different things at different times.
I don’t care if people unfollow me. That is not the point in me responding to this… the point is that everyone should take a look at this message and really dissect what it means.
Really think about WHY someone thinks me captioning something with an advert instead of something that says “mother fuckers never luh’d us” (cause pretty much all i ever caption anything with is hip hop lyrics) changes anything at all? what does it change? and why does it bother people?
… I just think everyone should take a minute and think on that.
